Database normalization, or simply normalization, is the process of organizing the columns (attributes) and tables (relations) of a relational database to reduce data redundancy and improve data integrity. Normalization is also a process of simplification of the design of the database so as to achieve the optimal structure. This was first proposed by Edgar F. Codd as an integral part of the relational model.

Normalization involves setting the attributes in the relationships based on dependencies between the attributes, make sure that the dependencies are properly applied by the integrity constraints of the database. [3] informally, a relation of a relational database is often described as "normalized" if it satisfies the third normal form.
