Instructions
1. Cut a small slice from one side of the 3” foam egg so that it will sit flat. (Always closely supervise children when they are handling the plastic knife.)
2. Paint the narrow end of the egg with light tan paint. This will be the face. Set aside to dry.
3. Cut out two round ears from tan felt. Make a small cut across one side so each circle has a flat side. Using the plastic knife, make a small slit on either side of the painted face. Place a dot of glue on one slit and work the flat edge of the felt ear into the slit using the point of a wooden skewer. Poke the outside corners of the ear inward to make the ear curve into a little cup shape. Repeat for remaining ear.
4. Wrap yarn around a 3” wide piece of sturdy cardboard. Cut along the bottom edge to cut the loops off the cardboard. Cut yarn pieces in half again. It's o.k. if the pieces are a little uneven. Depending on the yarn thickness, you will need 80-100 pieces to cover the hedgehog.
5. Place a dot of glue on the wide end of the egg. Fold a yarn piece in half and place the fold on the glue. Using the blunt end of a wooden skewer, push the yarn straight down into the foam egg. Smooth the yarn end toward the back. Repeat, till all of the yarn pieces have been added and the hedgehog's body is covered. Do not cover the painted face.
6. Glue on a black pompom for a nose and the half-round black beads for the eyes.
7. Cut out two feet from brown felt. Glue to the bottom of the hedgehog, underneath the face.
8. Blush the cheeks and centers of the ears.
9. Gently stroke the yarn to smooth it out. If needed, carefully trim the yarn.
